What Is The Treebate Program

The Treebate program is a WA Government initiative run by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER). It offers eligible Western Australian residents a cash rebate of up to $150 when they buy and plant a qualifying native tree on their private property.

The program runs until 2029 with up to 10,000 rebates available each year on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the annual allocation is exhausted, your claim carries into the following year. Year two allocation opens July 2026 — act early.

To qualify, your tree must be an Australian native species that reaches at least 3 metres at maturity, purchased from a WA commercial nursery with a valid ABN tax invoice. Claims are submitted through the ServiceWA app and are typically paid within 7 business days.

Why Plant a WA Native Tree

Perth’s native trees aren’t a compromise — they’re the best possible choice for a WA backyard. They’ve evolved exactly for our conditions: long dry summers, sandy nutrient-poor Swan Coastal Plain soils, and water restrictions that punish exotic species.

Plant the right native tree and you get decades of shade, wildlife habitat, and year-round beauty with minimal water and virtually no chemical inputs. WA native trees support local honeyeaters, Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos, native bees, and insects in ways that exotic species simply can’t.

The Treebate program makes the decision even easier — the WA Government covers up to $150 of the purchase price, so the financial case for planting native has never been stronger.
