The Treebate Annual Allocation: What Happens When the 10,000 Claims Run Out

Treebate Year 2 opened today — 1 July 2026. If you missed the Year 1 allocation, or you are only just hearing about the program, here is exactly how the annual cap works and what it means for your claim.

How the Annual Allocation Works

The Treebate program runs for four years, from 28 July 2025 to 2029. Each year, the WA Government releases exactly 10,000 rebate payments on a first-come, first-served basis. Once those 10,000 payments are issued, claims close for that program year.

There is no waitlist and no priority queue. The allocation is simply open, then closed.

What Happens If the Allocation Runs Out Before You Claim

Your claim does not expire. If the annual allocation is exhausted before you submit, you can claim in the following year — provided you have kept your tax invoice and your plant label photo.

This is confirmed in the official DWER Treebate FAQ:

“I purchased a tree but the allocations for this year were exhausted before I could make a claim. Can I claim next year? Yes, you can still make a claim next year. Keep a copy of your tax invoice and the plant label for your claim.”

The two documents you must keep are:

  • Your original tax invoice from the WA commercial nursery, showing the tree species, price, GST breakdown, and the nursery’s ABN — no handwritten additions
  • A photo of the plant label from the pot, showing the scientific or common name of the tree

Do not discard either document. Both are required when you submit your claim, regardless of which year you claim in.

When Does Treebate Year 2 Open

Year 2 opened on 1 July 2026. Claims are processed through the ServiceWA app within approximately 7 business days of submission. If you cannot use the app, a paper claim form is available from the DWER Treebate page — paper claims take up to 30 days to process.

The fastest way to claim is through the ServiceWA app with a myID at Standard identity strength.

The Once-Per-Person Rule

Treebate is available once per person for the entire four-year program — not once per year. If you claimed in Year 1, you cannot claim again in Year 2, regardless of whether you plant another tree.

Every eligible adult in a household can claim independently. A household of two adults who have not yet claimed can each submit a separate claim for a separate tree in Year 2 — for a combined rebate of up to $300.

How Quickly Does the Allocation Fill

Year 1 data gives useful context. As of November 2025 — roughly four months after the program opened on 28 July 2025 — fewer than half of the 10,000 Year 1 rebates had been claimed. The allocation did not exhaust in Year 1.

That said, Treebate Year 2 has more awareness than Year 1 did. The program is more established, and partner nurseries are better stocked. Claiming early in the year remains the lower-risk approach.

What You Need to Claim

Before you purchase a tree, confirm it meets all three eligibility requirements:

  • Australian native species — any species native to Australia qualifies; it does not need to be WA endemic
  • Mature canopy height of 3 metres or more — check the plant label at the nursery; if it says Dwarf, Nana, Little, or Compact, it does not qualify
  • Purchased from a WA commercial nursery with a valid ABN — private sales through Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, or neighbours are not eligible

Your tax invoice must be system-generated — not handwritten, and without handwritten additions of any kind. A handwritten date or ABN added to a generic receipt is an automatic rejection by the ServiceWA processing system.
